Sanjeev Kumar is a Fellow at the Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI) at Stanford University, a full-time on-campus program focused on purpose, community, and wellness. After about 30 years focused on building software products and companies, Sanjeev uses his time at Stanford to learn about financial models and economics relating to businesses leveraging data, AI, and Machine Learning. In the process, he is also learning about private equity, venture finance, IP monetization, and the financial (re)structuring of companies. Sanjeev is a former software executive with a data engineering and data science background. During his career, he has held roles such as - - GM of product organizations in Silicon Valley and MD of company subsidiaries in India - Head of engineering at large companies and startups, driving initial customer engagements - a bridge between business and product teams (as a GM) for large-scale enterprise software products Sanjeev is lucky enough to have been a member of teams that developed industry-first products, like - - a privacy-preserving machine learning platform using differential privacy - an edge AI software platform enabling industrial and commercial IoT applications - a broker-less messaging platform used for algorithmic trading and bulk data movement - data virtualization and integration (query) engine using XQuery and XPath - annotations in Java (generic) and for web services, and an IDE for web services - industry-wide API standards and platforms for developing and managing Java applications - SQL (RDBMS) extensibility framework to support rich, complex data types in Oracle database - graph database engines (OODBMs) that work seamlessly with Java, C++, and Smalltalk - GIS database software deployed on American tanks during the first Iraq war Besides the DCI Program at Stanford, Sanjeev advises and invests in early-to-late-stage systems-technology companies focused on data and AI infrastructure, vertical AI/ML, digital twin, digital thread, and the industrial metaverse in general. He is an advisor at startup accelerators like Cardinal Ventures at Stanford and UC Berkeley's Skydeck and a member of Sand Hill Angels. Sanjeev enjoys hiking and playing Pickleball and other racket sports in his spare time.
