Dr. Sameer Islam, "aka the poop guru," is a gastroenterologist that serves the Lubbock, TX area and offers patients a more holistic functional approach to treating digestive conditions. A key focus of his practice is to promote colon cancer awareness through local events and organizations to help increase screening participation rates. His medical interests include anything related to the GI tract, including reflux, IBS, hemorrhoids, constipation, colitis, Barrett's esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease, small bowel diseases, and issues related to the pancreas, liver, gallbladder. Dr. Islam is passionate about educating others on all aspects of health, focusing on all digestive conditions. Sameer Islam was born in Malone, New York but grew up in his hometown of Odessa, Texas. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas in Austin, graduating with honors. Dr. Islam completed both his medical degree (MD) and master's of business association (MBA) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Texas Tech Rawls School of Business, respectively. After completing his internal medicine training at Texas Tech University, he completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society, American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD). He has numerous publications and abstracts and has presented at national and international meetings on various gastrointestinal topics. He was also the recipient of the Digestive Disease Weeks (DDW) 's Gender Diversity Award. He is married with five beautiful children.
