This deliverable was needed as part of a commitment by the Prime Minister - in effect an immovable deadline. This pressure was compounded by the fact that it was a particularly complex technology challenge. The service required integration with biometric systems, complex encryption, security constraints and challenging batch processing. To address the challenges I introduced agile to the project with offshore delivery, the first of its kind for the Home Office. I have since scaled the practices implemented in this project to successfully deliver even larger and more complex deliverables for the Home Office. The project delivered early and was able to support outcomes not originally within the scope of work, as a result I was able to deliver significant additional benefits to the department.

I was asked to move to the Cabinet Office to rollout a desktop service to a major government department. I led the work, generating the plan and executing to it. The rollout brought significant benefits to users with new and easier to use technology while being more secure. The rollout was completed ahead of schedule generating savings which were then reinvested in the service.

This project was under a strict timeline due to a prime ministerial commitment. A critical part of the project was failing to deliver and with six months left, the commitment was at risk. I took over the failing project, replaced the majority of the team and created a small, cross-functional focused team to turn the project around. By simplifying the design while continuing to meet the requirement, rigorously controlling scope, and introducing proper agile discipline we were able to deliver on time and on budget.
