For the past year I've been working with community energy groups including Transition Town Worthing, Community Energy South, and Brighton & Hove Energy Services Co-operative. My role has largely been dealing with consumer advice, helping customers save energy and money, as well as access any further assistance that may be available to them. In addition to this I have also been working on domestic energy assessments and efficiency improvements, and feasibility studies for community owned solar projects. Between October 16 and March 17 I successfully coordinated the delivery of BEIS's Big Energy Saving Network project here in Worthing, delivering consumer advice and energy awareness training to front line workers such as social workers and charity volunteers.

During my Masters degree I completed a research project, investigating the feasibility of using the aqueous waste product from the upgrading of bio-pyrolysis oils,(also produced from waste products) as the steam source for reforming of ethanol over an NiO catalyst, to produce hydrogen-rich syngas. I worked on the project in collaboration with a PhD student, as part of a wider team of researchers working on hydrogen production via pyrolysis of organic wastes, at the University of Leeds Institute for Energy & Resources Research. Working on this project is one of the most exciting things Iʼve done academically, as it is original research that could, I believe, prove important in the field of commercial energy recovery from waste. The project has provided me with the opportunity to learn and develop skills in analytical thinking, scientific method, data analysis, various chemical analysis techniques and report-writing.

During final year, I undertook a group design project working with three other students to design a biomass gasifier, to produce hydrogen for fuel cell power generation. Through effective team work, we were able to win the prize for best final year design project. I was also a member of the Snowriders ski & snowboarding society, and the Beyond Fighting kickboxing & krav maga society during my time at Leeds.
