* Worked within a team on a high profile project within Analytical Sciences in Macclesfield. The types of work I undertook during my placement included: * Drug substance and intermediates analytical method development (GC, HPLC, NMR, Karl Fisher), also involving close communication with our sub-teams within process chemistry and physical sciences * Tablet assay and dissolution method validation work * Drug product forced degradation analytical method development and impurities analysis * Industrial Research Project: Method development for Quantification of Trace carboxylate salts in drug substances * Distance modules: X-Ray Crystallography, Biological Inorganic Chemistry, Elemental Analysis, Scientific Project Management.

An intensive placement that helped me develop leadership abilities, people skills and confidence in taking initiatives. My role entailed assisting and shadowing teachers in the classroom, and developing workshops for pupils (from years 8 to 11) to encourage participation into higher education and to highlight the importance of STEM subjects in various career paths, making these as innovative and engaging as possible. In addition to the above, student associates were also required to undertake a special project aimed at educational outreach, for which I liaised with another Student Associate in the school to prepare a public display providing information on the types of HE courses available and sources of information.

iTeams (Innovation Teams) is programme rolled out from MIT, that enables academic researchers to get a practical understanding of the commercialisation process of novel science and technology inventions. Our team of six comprises of researchers from different academic backgrounds, and our objective is to assess the commercial scope and viability of an invention developed by a leading UEA academic.

As an associate tutor I provide academic teaching support in Biology and Chemistry undergraduate laboratories. Additionally, I have also led seminars and been involved in grading coursework and examination scripts.

* Dedicated up to 130 hours to date on science outreach and engagement activities with schools in Norfolk and Suffolk * Worked in teams and individually to deliver talks and workshops on campus and in schools * Developed a hands-on workshop on Protein Crystallography and Bioinformatics for the Year 10 RCUK Summer School at UEA, which was delivered for two years running as part of the programme.

A research student in Professor Changjiang Dong's group, using structural biology to understand the physiology of a range of microorganisms. I have had the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively on several projects, and develop skills in Protein crystallography, NMR, SAXS, protein biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. My thesis which describes the structure and function of: 1) A novel Lactobacillus reuteri adhesin and its role in host-specific biofilm formation within the mammalian gastro-intestinal tract (in collaboration with the Institute of Food Research, Norwich). 2) A small group of proteins involved in outer membrane Lipopolysaccharide biogenesis in pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria.
