Ran two lab sessions a week where I was in charge of teaching and reviewing computer science concepts in the SCHEME language to beginner level students. Worked mainly on two projects during this time: The first project was in the public sector, helping with the design and installation of an online unemployment benefits portal for the state of California. Helped design the front-end screens for users and administrators through discussions with state personnel. Created documentation to for step by step use of screens and interactions between front end screens and back end data. Worked daily with implementation team to ensure screens were created properly and acted as intermediary between state staff and implementation team. The second project was a data filtering project for a company's recent acquisition. Researched several years of data to determine data patterns and proper filtering techniques. Interviewed both acquiring and acquired staff to ensure filtering parameters. Ensured data processing team was working at proper efficiency and resolved problems as they arose.

Performed cultural/international exchange in the community as requested by schools, community groups, etc. Concurrently served as Prefectural Advisor for the JET Programme in Kumamoto Prefecture. Helped run the JET Programme for around 100 JET participants in Kumamoto Prefecture. Performed outreach to JET participants and helped advise/counsel them as requested. Visited around 30 JETs per year at their schools/workplaces for face-to-face interviews. Planned and run Kumamoto Orientation, an annual event to welcome new JETs to Kumamoto. Maintained kumamotojet.com, a web portal for Kumamoto JETs. Organized and edited "The YOKA", a seasonal publication written by JETs in Kumamoto.
