I was a sixth tutor and taught a little six thform. It was a refreshing change from younger pupils. However I did not stay long but got a job in F.E. teaching adults. Very fulfilling. I also tried to write a novel but it was rubbish. Short stories and poetry are what I do best.

The Navy was not for me but I had a lovely time with the Australian Navy. I found the australains a wonderful people. Lots of energy, they worked hard and played hard. When American planes landed on HMAS Melbourne and the pilot went up to the bridge our flight deck hands stencilled kangaroos all over the aircraft. Leaving the Royal Navy with no regrets I became a teacher and worked in Secondary schools and F.E. Colleges. Being disillusioned with schooling for the ordinary, actually the best, people I worked with my son on the harbour before returning to schools and colleges. Now I am achieving a lifelong ambition to be published and have people read my books. .

I already had a teachers Certificate form Portsmouth College of education During my first five years of teaching I studied anhd passed in nine months the University of Lorndon Diploma in Theology. Then I read for hte Licentiate of the College of Preceptors and after some research on oral learning I passed their exams to be a Licentiate. I then applied to Sussex to study for the M.A. in educational Theories. This was a very inspiring and challenging year and it made me look at many of my ideas with fresh eyes and a fresh though shaken mind. I came into teaching from the Navy at the age of thirty and my first job was in 1967 when I was thirty-three. I also had a small family and so you see I had a busy life. What with running two after school swimming clubs (I also became an ASA Teacher) I look back and cannot imagine how I coped. I did, and started on a journey which is still going on, learning more and more and arguing more and more. . Activities and Societies: Christian Union
