Robyn Wendon
Senior Buyer @ Eland Cables
About
The majority of my childhood I spent within the swimming pool. It was not all fun and games but hard-work and a true test of character. It was imperative that I knew discipline, dedication and forward thinking. I have been able to use these capabilities throughout school, work and my social life. During University, my studies took priority and I hung up the swimming costume. Although this spelt the end for my personal triumphs in swimming, I started work as a swimming instructor. It was a very rewarding career and I am extremely proud of my student's and my own accomplishments during my time within this profession. I learnt how to communicate to many different people; older, younger, people with learning disabilities, shy people, badly behaved people... But, I enjoy new challenges. I like to be pushed to my limit. So once I left University I decided to pursue a career within the supply chain. Whilst University prepared me for technical part of the business world, it has not really compared to getting hands on experience.

I was recruited by Batt Cables shortly after graduating from University. As part of the purchasing team, my role is to look after and maintain a range of flexible cables and components. I also have knowledge in MV and HV cables. Some of my responsibilities include stock checking and replenishment, range expansion and enquiry management. I have been solely responsible for sourcing a new LV jointing kit range and have worked on tenders for various solar, windfarm and nuclear projects. This job has helped improve my ability to recognise trends and take a proactive approach to them. It has also expanded on my experience of negotiating with Suppliers to ensure that the customer and Batt Cables are getting the best value for money.
