Robert Viramontes

My research interests include methods for efficient deployment of deep neural networks, model optimization methods, and applications of machine learning to Electronic Design Automation challenges. I work extensively with PyTorch and NVIDIA GPU platforms, including mobile Jetson Nano, to characterize and optimize networks for edge deployment.

Lead instructor of an Introduction to Computer Engineering course.

ECE 756 - Computer-Aided Design for VLSI. Assisted students with course programming assignment in C/C++. Guided students in developing/debugging course programming projects in a variety of programming languages.

Held office hours and graded student work for Digital Circuits and Components. Assisted students with schematic capture, simulation, and layout in Cadence Virtuoso.

Improved packaging software flows for routing and routability analysis, including a GUI application written with Python leveraging PyQT. Developed machine learning applications to parse and extract information from manufacturing records, including an emphasis on explainability to explain the model predictions to a wider audience.

Projects across service areas, including: Custom Application Development: - C#/WPF applications. - Full-stack web applications utilizing React and ASP.NET. - Vision processing utilizing OpenCV and Qt framework on C++. • Led a five-person team to plan and implement over 200 events for approximately 2000 new students during Columbia’s eight day New Student Orientation Program. • Developed overall vision and goals for the program to welcome and acclimate new students. Ensure the execution of this vision by guiding other committee members’ work in leader training, informational programs, and social events. • Worked with administrative offices to integrate their programming into the orientation week’s theme and goals.

• Communicated with online scuba diving community through forums and Twitter to develop an audience for a start up website introducing a new news-ranking platform.

• Worked with students to take charge of their education, including identifying goals and tracking progress. • Assisted with the daily operations of an education program, including managing phones, emails, and Access databases.
