Robert Foreman, MIR

Serving in an advisory capacity, I am responsible for providing leadership, expert advice and guidance to city management and staff on labour relations matters. I provide support through the complaint/grievance/arbitration processes, facilitate training seminars and presentations to develop labour relations knowledge and enhance competency of city staff in managing labour relations issues, and contribute to the collective bargaining processes.

My role supports the operation of Vale’s Whistleblower Channel, conducting and coordinating investigations of allegations related mainly to the North Atlantic region. Also, I proactively promote ethical awareness in Vale’s Corporate Culture. I use my experience in conducting investigations to optimize the control environment within the company. Occasionally, I support Internal Audit engagements within the scope of the broader Audit & Compliance team. • Selected to join newly created Whistleblower Channel in Vale’s Canadian operations. • Assisted in developing procedures for the Whistleblower Channel • Conducting workplace investigations into all allegations submitted to the channel across Canada and the United Kingdom.

Advises site management for Vale Ontario Operations Port Colborne Refinery as well as the Power Department in Sudbury. Support management in all aspects of Labour Relations, Performance Management, Arbitration, Grievances, HR Policies and Headcount Budgeting.

My role is to participate in third party hearings such as Arbitrations, Commissioner Hearings and Human Rights Tribunals. I also lead workplace investigations and facilitate dispute resolution sessions. I ensure governance and standardization of collective agreements, grievance and dispute resolution matters, and act as the subject matter expert for other members of the HR team when it comes to the interpretation of the collective agreements, policies, and labour legislation.

Firm is currently working on behalf of a large GTA Regional Health Centre to negotiate renewed collective agreement with the Ontario Nurses’ Association. My role includes note taking during bargaining process and costing out contract proposals. My work is contributing to the achievement of a new collective agreement for the employer.

Elected to the 2021 bargaining committee by my peers. This role involves surveying members, identifying priorities and key areas of improvement for a new and better Collective Agreement. Committee members meet with each other to build a list of bargaining demands ahead of collective bargaining in April.

Working alongside a team of TA's to support Prof. Robert Hickey's EMPR 100 (Introduction to Employment Relations) undergraduate class.

Editorial Assistant with CBC's The Fifth Estate. Edit/format each episode's script for closed captioning. Chase produce and pursue other stories when I have the opportunity.

Interned with the CBC's investigative show, the fifth estate, for a six-week period. - Acted as a researcher and associate producer for upcoming stories. - Scheduled/organized filming and interviews for our hosts. - Shot listed b-roll. - Sat in on screenings. - Pitched stories and ideas for the fifth estate, marketplace, Metro Morning and Toronto Local. - Took part in filming on location.

• Managing a team of volunteer videographers and reporters. Often teaching them how to create a field report. • Editing, filming, and reporting in videos. Sometimes creating an entire field report by myself. • Writing scripts as well as stories for the publication. • Coming up with weekly story pitches and making them visually appealing.
