About
I am a wildlife artist and filmmaker specialising in British wildlife, although my scope is global. I am credited with having pioneered the use of surveillance cameras to record the individual lives of the species. I use these cameras to follow barn owls, tawny owls, kestrels, stoats, weasels and more across generations, getting to know their secret, intimate lives. My continuous, detailed studies have given me unique insight into animal behaviour and my findings have featured on TV programmes around the world - including an hour-long documentary on weasels by BBC Earth and PBS. They also inspire my artwork and each of my wildlife paintings is a portrait of an animal I know well. I also make wildlife films and short documentaries about wildlife I watch and regularly produce pieces for BBC The One Show. Further afield, I have partnered with travel companies to produce films about wildlife and have so far created documentaries about polar bears in the Arctic, sloths in Panama, and an engaging family of lions in Zimbabwe Africa. You can find my films on my YouTube channel, Robert E Fuller. My wildlife films and photographs provide the references I need to create detailed paintings and portraits. Working mostly in either oil or acrylic paint as well as bronze sculpture, my favoured artistic style is detailed and lifelike. My work is available to buy online via my website www.robertefuller.com or from my gallery based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire, and I also accept commissions. In addition, I am a keen conservationist and devote much of my time to the restoration of habitat and to wildlife rehabilitation. An ash woodland I restored close to my home in North Yorkshire is now home to kestrels, owls, badgers, foxes and deer whose everyday comings and goings can be seen on my YouTube livestream. I also work alongside local wildlife rescue teams to rehabilitate rescued owls by placing them into the nests of wild owls, a pioneering project that gives these birds a wild upbringing and therefore the best opportunities to survive a life in the wild. Along with my filmmaking, art and photography (I was category winner of the British Wildlife Photography Awards in 2016 ), I also write a blog and a regular column about my wildlife watching experiences for The Yorkshire Post and other publications,
