I've done quite a variety of things over the years, from embedded-level C and C++ on to using these same languages in realtime simulation and testing, and then moving on to Java and now Groovy in both the pure backend processing and now webapp areas. Perl and shell scripting and a little Python are sprinkled across all this to taste. Almost all this work has been done on Unix-alikes: SGI IRIX on MIPS progressing to most of the major flavors of Linux. Goals-wise, I suppose I'm always looking for something challenging and different. I've moved from working at a defense giant to a small startup and from debugging pointer dereferences to trying to grok Groovy/Grails/Spring autowiring. I am not sure what exactly would be a good next step, but I'm always probing for what might be interesting. Specialties: Software development, system administration, software design

Most of my work was in Java (but some C++, some Perl) on the billing, analytics, and reporting systems with an occasional divergence into other areas (web caching, etc.). The legacy system was in C++, but had various limitations that we were hoping to overcome to produce something more scalable and in which new features (reports, kinds of billing) could be more smoothly and quickly implemented. Lots of MySQL and Hadoop. The platform was Linux.
