Self-Employed

My clients include people from all walks of life, and they entrust me with documents (PhD theses and dissertations, legal papers, resumes, fiction, brochures, essays, poems, newsletters, websites, medical journals and scientific publications) to edit and proofread. Additionally, I research and fact-check all material to ensure accuracy in every detail, write copy as needed, meet with clients to review projects and outline a strategy, and adhere to brand standards and editorial styles as required.

My reputation has been earned through an extensive Fine Arts inventory, and an outstanding reliability in servicing customers. All of the autographs in my inventory are guaranteed authentic forever. Producer/Owner
Winnetka Music
A small reissue label specializing in music of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s.

Copyeditor/Copywriter
Travel Trade Publications
New York, NY
This was a long-established publisher of a weekly trade newspaper/magazine for the travel industry, with a history dating back to the 1920s! I edited copy written by staff and freelance writers, wrote copy based on press releases and interviews, researched data for copy accuracy, including consultations with staff writers and corporate leaders in the travel industry, attended press functions representing Travel Trade and wrote follow-up copy. I was responsible for receiving editorial copy from clients (advertisers) and editing it into our house style. I proofread all final copy, and worked with lawyers on a weekly basis for copy approval. I also served as mediator for travel agent subscribers in collecting overdue commissions as part of the publication’s Bypass column.

United States Census Bureau Team Captain
Bergen County, NJ
It was surprising to find out that I was the only person to take the exam and achieve a perfect score of 100% on the test! According to their rules and standards, in addition to receiving a perfect score, I was entitled to extra credit for having had worked in the past for the government (Area 51), but for some reason they denied my request. As co-leader of a team assigned to the Cresskill and Alpine areas of northern New Jersey, I collected data from part-time employees in my group who were tasked with going door-to-door in these communities and interviewing residents, in an effort to acquire their personal data for the federal census.

Head Editor
CableView Publications (WinMar Enterprises)
Edgewater, NJ
As manager of the editing department for the second/swing shift, I oversaw a room of 6+ editors/proofreaders, and was personally responsible for copyediting feature articles and interviews for this company that produced custom weekly and monthly cable guides for cable systems throughout the country. I proofread network schedules, from inception to blues of the final product, as well as monthly guides for major cable channels such as Showtime, TMC, Lifetime, TLC, Encore and Disney. I consistently met strict monthly deadlines of nearly 100 custom periodicals for cable systems throughout the country, and was able to apply my vast knowledge of television and movie history to ensure the accuracy of synopses and photos.

Associate Producer/Producer
Stash Records
New York, NY
This was a dream job where I could put my love and knowledge of the music of the 1920's, '30s, and '40s to work for me! There were a number of different reissue labels associated with the parent company, each specializing in its own specific category of vintage music. I supervised the production of booklet notes and artwork, edited text and proofread all final copy. I also supervised disc pressings with production plants, and approved test pressings, prepared promotional/press releases, and wrote copy for seasonal mail-order catalogues.

Acid Washer
Metropolitan Circuits
Costa Mesa, CA
This job was during my first years of college. I had the graveyard shift, and was responsible for cleaning bad (or old) circuit boards by manually putting them through an acid bath, one at a time by hand. This was in the prehistoric days before home computers. One night, a co-worker got a bit too playful and ended up splashing acid in my eyes. His father, the night security guard, saved my sight by immediately washing my eyes. Looking back, it's amazing that I can see at all. And if the girl who sat next to me in my 8 am Marine Biology class is reading this, now you know why I was always falling asleep in the lecture hall!
