About
Attracted to real, hard-to-solve problems whose solution will positively affect a large number of people. I love building systems to last, and building them in a timely fashion (another hard problem :). I love working in teams which share a common drive because of the amazing amount of work that can be accomplished in such an environment. Specialties: Student of Computer Science. I'm always looking to acquire new knowledge and experience outside of what I already have. I find that cross-domain experience is invaluable.

During the summer, I built a machine learning based error correction system for typing on mini- QWERTY keyboards and helped run a user study to evaluate the software's performance. I used previously collected typing data to train a suite of decision trees using features like key timings, letter frequencies, and physical distances between keys. I integrated this error correction system into a previously existing typing application to evaluate its performance on live data. As part of my work I created a simple model of the English language, using the entirety of Wikipedia, in order to improve the correction algorithm. At the end of the summer, I helped to create and run a user evaluation of this technology, and contributed to "Automatic Whiteout++..." (See Publications).

I worked at NRC as part of a design research team to develop new ways of using and interacting with future mobile devices. As part of my work there, I co-invented a novel method of text input and control. I implemented a hardware/software prototype of the system, and refined it to the point that I was able to make demonstrations of the system's functionality and viability to others.

software engineer at google
Google's mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Since our founding in 1998, Google has grown by leaps and bounds. From offering search in a single language we now offer dozens of products and services—including various forms of advertising and web applications for all kinds of tasks—in scores of languages. And starting from two computer science students in a university dorm room, we now have thousands of employees and offices around the world. A lot has changed since the first Google search engine appeared. But some things haven't changed: our dedication to our users and our belief in the possibilities of the Internet itself.
