Resident Faculty-Welding - Full time Instructor. Classroom instruction on the trade theory behind various arc welding processes including but not limited to SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, & GTAW. Welder safety training, training of proper use of various types of welding equipment, demonstration of safe work practices, knowledgeability of PPE, basic employability, instruction on effective verbal & written communication techniques, problem solving, construction math, blueprint reading & interpretation, weld symbol interpretation, instruction on layout/fit-up/production of various weldments (projects), welding inspection, joint geometry & design, welding codebook instruction (AWS D1.1, API 1104, ASME Sect. Welder/Machinist/Shipfitter - Port Operations, Kings Bay Naval Sub Base, GA. Maintain, manage and operate Weld & Machine shops. Lathe turning, milling, drilling and grinding. Roll, bend, cut, flange, shape, punch & shear plate, pipe, channel, angle, square tubing and other various heavy metal parts. Utilize 5 ton overhead crane to move heavy parts and structures. Structural welding on small boat fleet. Layout & fabricate. Blueprint reading. Planning & estimating. Oxy/Ace torch cutting, burning, scarfing, beveling and washing. Plasma arc cutting and pipe bending. SMAW, GTAW, GMAW. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Work entirely without supervision and other Journeyman seek my advice daily. Work independent of supervision to determine work to be done and the steps needed to accomplish task. Determine correct welding process to utilize, as well as, the correct electrode type and size. Assemble pieces to form parts using templates and marking/layout tools such as soapstone, chalk-line, scratch awl, center punches, squares, levels, and straight edges to establish working lines. Personally NDT all welding performed. Inspect and reorder all metal. Perform daily housekeeping duties. Oversee logistics of Machine shop and Weld shop. Lead coordinator with multiple crafts on various fabrication projects during the repair of small boat fleet and during mission essential emergency response at Port Operations.
