As a recent hire I was assigned to work on several estimates involving earth, infrastructure and structural work. I became proficient in several modeling, drafting and estimating software. I was also a lead on two studies involving past “Drill and Blast Work” and “Haul Road” analysis.

Field Engineering with Kiewit involves the on-site support for the project superintendents and the coordination of the operation activities. Such duties include the follow up of work performed, quality control and work assessment. The field engineer is also responsible for creating any workplans and to follow all safety requirements set by the company, owner and government regulations. Further to the on-site activities is the tracking of costs, material and labour distribution. As a field engineer the greatest tool used is the schedule and daily cost tracking sheets. With these two tools the work can be scrutinized to find out where improvements can be made or how success can be measured. From a personal point it’s a great challenge to be involved in the direct operations of work, if a task is not going well it is seen through the tracking and being proactive instead of reactive is a trait best used to tackle all work operations.
