Interim Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Enterprises
Chicago, IL
Asked by executive vice-president to step into this role during a time of leadership transition and in preparation for a permanent AVP role to follow. Provided leadership oversight for the following areas, including supervision for the directors of each of these areas: Housing Services (before the merger), Residential Education (before the merger), Dining, Student Centers and Conference/Event Services, Campus Recreation, Campus Bookstore, Parking and Shuttle Services, Distribution and Mail Services. Areas of responsibility were similar to those in the AVP role listed above, with slightly different departments and more of an emphasis on auxiliary enterprises.

Chief Executive Officer
The Garage on Ferry Street
United States
I owned a restaurant/bar for one year. We closed due to unfortunate circumstances but as owner/CEO I managed the food and beverage aspects of the business. This included all financial management, customer service, employee management, event planning, etc. This was a great experience which enhanced the work I continued doing at the same time in higher education.

Owner's Representative
University Center Chicago
This is a 1600-bed residential facility taking up one full block in Chicago’s South Loop (with a full block of retail stores on the first floor), co-owned by three different universities (DePaul University, Columbia College and Roosevelt University) and managed by US Equities (later CBRE). Was asked by the executive vice president to represent the facility owners in the oversight of the administrative, operational and financial affairs of this facility and be the liaison between all owners and the management company until the building was later sold to a private investment firm. Served as Secretary of EAF, coordinating and facilitating board meetings, operating committee meetings, and annual member meetings. Facilitated the operating, capital budget, and strategic planning processes. Advised the Board regarding policy, procedural and operational issues of the corporation. Worked with external counsel, the Board, and the management company to ensure legal compliance with various city, state, and federal laws/regulations. Negotiated new contracts and recommended provisions and amendments to existing contracts to include retail renters in the building. Instrumental in the sale of this property to include assisting with writing the master lease (single largest real estate sale in Chicago history at that time). Concurrently held this position until the building was sold and all affairs of the corporation were resolved. Gained skills in real estate, property management, contracts and bidding, legal affairs and real estate taxes.
