[Short bio] Richard Farrell received his B.Sc. and D. Phil. degrees from University College Cork, Ireland in 2002 and 2007 respectively. He spent the next decade working in the semiconductor industry in both foundry and vendor roles primarily focused on advanced patterning. In 2019, he began working on Augmented Reality (AR) at Meta Reality Labs in various roles within Display & Optics [XDO]. [extended bio] Richard Farrell is a seasoned researcher and engineer with a strong background in semiconductor manufacturing and augmented reality. He has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed research papers in reputable international journals and conferences, holds more than 30 United States patents, and has accumulated over 2,000 citations, resulting in an H-index of more than 20. From 2014 to 2019, Richard worked for Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) at their US Research & Development Center in Albany, New York (TEL Technology Center America), where he focused on designing and implementing new hardware and innovative process technologies for complex lithography and patterning applications. Prior to joining Tokyo Electron, Richard was a Principal Research Engineer within the Emerging Lithography and Tools team, part of the Strategic Lithography Technology department at GLOBALFOUNDRIES INC from 2011 to 2014. In this role, he defined GLOBALFOUNDRIES' roadmap for directed self-assembly (DSA) and developed efficient patterning techniques using existing patterning technologies. Earlier in his career, Richard worked as a postdoctoral research associate at UCLA from 2009 to 2011, focusing on magneto-electric applications for self-assembled materials. He also worked at Intel Corporation from 2006 to 2007, specializing in self-assembly techniques for semiconductor manufacturing.
