As Managing Director, I head up Genus Trading Ltd, a company that has been developed to provide an innovative & personal service, to its clients. Utilising its vast industry knowledge, Genus Trading Ltd assists and helps identifies opportunities and options designed to gain optimum returns alongside a detailed and thorough administrative backup. Since 2015 the team at Genus Trading Ltd has been able to provide an array of sustainable outlets for all materials. In 2020 alongside fellow Directors Patrick Kilcoyne and Billie Chadwick, Genus Recycling Ltd was founded and developed to provide innovative and individual solutions for the management, collection and marketing of recyclate produced by Printers, packaging plants and retailers.

April 2008 – July 2015 UK Commercial Director Palm Recycling Ltd Responsible for the purchase of 430,000 tonnes of recovered paper to supply Palm Paper Newsprint Mill at Kings Lynn circa £65 million per annum spend responsible for monthly price negotiations with all suppliers developed, controlled and maintained a strategy for the supply of quality recovered paper for use at the Kings Lynn plant From 2013 responsible for the management of collection contracts and facilities for seven local authorities, six facilities and four contractors Managed the logistical movement and handling of all materials at an annual spend of circa £16.9 million. Managed the collection of waste paper from blue chip national printing companies collecting over 100,000 tonnes per annum, which resulted in an annual turnover of £11m and a profit margin of 10%. These companies included: The Daily Mail Group, Northern & Shell, Polestar Print Ltd, The Guardian, The Manchester Evening News, Archant, Morton Print Ltd, Prinovis and others. Implemented high customer satisfaction across all clientele through ensuring best practices,implementation of cost savings for clients on an individual basis and ensuring all clients were updated with the latest legislation. Marketed and sold over 80,000 tonnes of all recyclate such as other papers, plastics, metals, wood, textiles and glass, which generated revenue of circa £7.5m per annum A member of the Palm Recycling Senior Management Group reporting to the Managing Director, playing an active role in developing and managing the strategy and direction of the business. Assisted the Managing Director in the restructuring of the business in 2013 and played a major role in the sale of Abitibi Bowater Recycling to Palm Recycling in 2010, ensuring the continuity of the business following administration.

A subsidiary of one of the largest paper manufacturers in the world, the business has a t/o of €7.3 billion and 41,000 employees. Richard was in charge of the northwest region of Smurfit Kappa Recycling employing 50 people with a £7 million t/o.

Part of the multinational SCA Group, which had a t/o of £6bn and employed 45,000 people worldwide. SCA Recycling employed 230 people and had £95m t/o. SCA Recycling was seen as the leading Recovered Fibre company in the UK, with a nationwide network of operations. A vertically integrated organization which operated in a severely fluctuating cyclical market place. Held position of Branch Manager running various branches throughout England with a t/o of circa £4 million per annum
