Cognitive and behavioural therapists often use short-term therapies, focusing on teaching clients the techniques and skills they need to heal successfully. The cognitive and behavioural therapist often focuses on the thoughts, emotions, perceptions and behaviours that a client engages in and the ways these are connected to one another allowing the therapist to intervene at various points in a client's life. The goal of a therapist working at this level is to gain a mutual understanding with the client that while the therapist is the expert, the client knows him or herself, and has much to gain by actively participating in therapeutic interventions. I specialise in work with young people with a range of issues utilising stage one of the complex trauma model of safety and stabilisation.
