I am an early career medical and health research scientist working on understanding the mechanisms that contribute to high blood pressure. I graduated with a PhD in Physiology in May 2009 from Monash University and was awarded The Monash University Faculty of Medicine Bridging Post-Doctoral Fellowship to commence my post-doctoral research career. After completing one-year of post-doctoral research at Monash University, I moved to The University of Queensland in 2011 to continue my post-doctoral research. I worked at UQ for 2 years before moving back to Monash University in 2013 after being offered a research fellow position in The Department of Physiology. I was appointed co-convenor of the Honours research program of the Department of Physiology, Monash University (2015-present). I also contribute to teaching in 3rd year units in renal physiology.

I moved to The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in 2011 to pursue work in the molecular aspects of kidney development. I am also investigating if early diet and lifestyle modifications can prevent the development of diseases such as hypertension that would result from impaired development of the kidney. I ended by post-doctoral research there in January 2013 and took up a position at Monash University.

I was interested in gaining insight into medical and scientific writing and worked as a Public Relations officer position within the School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine (SPPPM) at Monash University in September 2008. I undertook this work while my PhD thesis was under examination. My main role, apart from liaising with internal and external media sources, writing media releases and strategic statements, event management, preparation of coursework brochures and advertising material for the School, was to compile a fortnightly newsletter, “PSYCH NEWS”.

I am currently working on a project investigating the long-term safety and efficacy of catheter-based renal denervation approach in the treatment of resistant hypertension. This technique has proven beneficial in the control of high blood pressure and has successfully reduced blood pressure levels in patients with hypertension by as much as 10-20 mmHg and for as long as 2-3 years. However, before this technology can be used as therapy for a wider population, the long-term effects in silencing the renal nerves need to be investigated in detail. That is the focus of my current work.
