I oversee both R&D and IT horizontally across the organisation, and promote a culture of innovation. My primary objective in this new role is to enable Digital Transformation of VAE Group (as a traditional Mechanical HVAC business that relies heavily on it's skilled labour resources) into a Data-Driven business that can automate many of it's functions and allow it to scale effectively. As VAE Group continues to grow at a steady pace, it is increasingly important to be efficient in how labour resources are utilised so as to maintain our high levels of profitability, quality and customer satisfaction. The challenges in this role are less about the technology and more about organisational change management. There are many stakeholders throughout the different business units who all play a vital role in ensuring success for any Digital Transformation project, especially with the continuing growth of the company. Internal research, discussions and training of people are all important skills which I've adopted along the way. Promoting innovation culture is also an exciting aspect of the role which I am passionate about. Especially in an industry such as Construction / Building Services, enabling a culture which has traditionally been highly risk-adverse into thinking 'outside the box' has both been a challenge and a reward.

RISE Technology’s Bitpool product was purchased by the mechanical and construction company VAE Group following the service’s early success. I was brought on board to support the group in its higher vision of integrating Software, Building Automation and IT to improve workflow and efficiency between subsidiary business units, as well as to manage several product lines including Bitpool. My responsibilities here include: Oversee research, development, and ongoing success of the Bitpool software suite, including promoting its use throughout the VAE Group of companies and collecting feedback to contribute to the product development cycle Manage 4 local and 9 offshore software development resources as well as 2 IT resources, with responsibility for $800,000 R&D budget for software development and data research Interim responsibility for VAE Group solution architecture including connectivity and migration to data centre for 5 satellites offices Implement product development strategy, draw upon Agile and Scrum methodologies throughout the development cycle, and secure internal stakeholder sign off Handle DevOps of infrastructure (Amazon Web Services) Provide support as technical writer and researcher for tender applications Act as pre-sales engineer for potential customers, with responsibility for designing architecture for specific clients

Contracted as Senior Software Developer by Guildlink, the primary provider of software and professional programs designed to assist pharmacists meet the requirements of 6CPA and the delivery of professional services. GuildCare is one of GuildLink’s software solutions. Designed and implemented a new system incorporating Silverlight 4 to migrate from existing WinForms architecture for use nationally in participating pharmacies, and led GuildCare and Xamarin development for their iPad tablet prototype

I founded RISE Technology Services to fulfil the underdeveloped software and visualisation needs in the building controls industry. It specialises in product development across the 4 major emerging markets: Big Data, Analytics, Smart City, and Internet of Things (IoT). Within two years, RISE grew to 7 employees and an annual turnover of $500k+. My key responsibilities here include: Manage small to medium development projects for web and mobile, as well as touchscreen and data visualisation projects for the University of Queensland Lead electrical utility data collection and visualization for large portfolio groups such as Australand and Stockland Founded Bitpool (www.bitpool.com), a cloud-based data collection service specifically for use in the commercial building controls industry Carried out contract work for start-up company WiTrack (aimed at delivering RFID asset tracking systems to hospitals), as well as several website design and web services Contracted as Senior Software Developer by Guildlink, the primary provider of software and professional programs designed to assist pharmacists meet the requirements of 6CPA and the delivery of professional services. As Technology Consultant, my responsibilities included: Designed and managed implementation of software solutions and developments for projects nationally Product Manager for EVA, a software platform for energy data collection, analysis and visualization with key features including algorithms for rolling forecast energy prediction, NABERS predictive, and reverse rating calculation

A Schneider Electric building business unit, TAC focuses on energy management and building security. My responsibilities here included: Used AutoCAD to develop front end for building management systems to allow users to monitor and control building services Met with site owners and provided technical assistance Engineering Thesis Project: Researched and developed wireless communication of controllers on a proprietary fieldbus, conducted analysis of data transactions on a token-passing network, and researched modification of protocol layers in Ethernet and IEEE 802.11; all while maintaining project schedule and budget
