•Associate Scientific Manager, Syngene International Ltd. (A Biocon Company) April 2008- Present Syngene is a Biocon group of companies, an internationally reputed contract research and manufacturing organization with multidisciplinary skills in chemistry and biology services. From early stage discovery and process development through to cGMP manufacturing, it provides customized services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology majors. In Syngene, I was working in process research development department and my role and responsibilities were handling a group of 8-10 scientists, route scouting, design of experiments (DoE), selection of route, process development, process optimization, screening of the process for reaction calorimtery, process safety and its scale up to multi kilo level (GMP/cGMP/GLP). The work was also involved identification and characterization of impurities in drug substance by performing negative experiments following the protocols and guidelines of International Conference on Harmonisation Q3A (R2) (ICH). For GMP campaigns work in Cross Functional Teams (CFT) for monitoring raw material and final product specification generation, raw material procurement, analytical method validation, process validation, BMR (Batch Manufacturing Record) preparation, QC/QA approvals, packing & shipment. Worked in coordination with process engineers and plant operators for successful technology transfer from lab to pilot plant.

Worked as practical and project instructor for undergraduate students. The responsibilities involved taking practical course work for undergraduates and guide them in the projects for synthesizing novel heterocyclic compounds based on fused quinoxalines, coumarines, thiazoles, thiophenes, pyrroles using novel methodologies. These compounds were used in the synthesis of highly fluorescent and thermally robust compounds for various high tech applications.

Synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates based on biphenyls and naphthalenes using cost effective routes for API’s.

Worked on process development and scale up of carbocyclic and heterocyclic intermediates used for making copper phthalocyanines. Actively involved in the syntheses of all kind of colorants mainly antibacterial disperse cationic and anionic dyes. Synthesized Nile blue, rhodamines, crystal violets, acid blue 109, near IR dyes based on squarines.
