Research Intern under Dr. Khushbu Maurya

I worked with Dr. Khushbu Maurya. I mainly researched Tropical Cyclones' effects and prediction methods. The main objective was to develop a ML model that could accurately predict cyclones at least 48 hours prior, which could help people escape the calamity beforehand. I collected data from sources like ISRO, CMA, IMD, IBTrACS, etc. and studied various research papers on cyclone prediction and geospatial data processing. I also developed a Machine Learning model that uses LSTM layers to predict tropical cyclones 48 hours earlier. The model scored an RMSE of 13.992. The model uses attributes like Latitude, Longitude, Estimated Central Pressure (hPa), Maximum Sustained Surface Wind, Pressure drop, etc., to predict the cyclone intensity/grade.

I worked under Professor Sejal Thakkar and her team. The main focus of our research was plant disease prediction, a significant problem for the agricultural sector. We researched and gathered information on various plant disease detection models and built our own model using convolutional neural network (CNN). We also went to local farms to collect datasets for the castor plant (Ricinus). I also assisted in developing a mobile app that can detect plant diseases of major crops, and this project also secured the runner-up position in the Smart India intra-college Hackathon organized by Indus University, where more than 50 teams participated. The knowledge I gained also helped me co-write a review paper on different AI approaches to plant disease detection and image collection and processing.
