Rafia Merchant is Managing Director of Capital Markets at Spearmint Energy, focusing on the trading and optimization of grid-scale battery storage projects in wholesale power markets and ISOs, including structuring and negotiating long-term, bankable commercial offtake (power purchase, tolling) agreements, and implementing an energy trading risk management framework for capital markets transactions. Rafia has over 20 years of experience in the Energy Infrastructure Finance and Commodity Trading industry, covering energy trading and structured derivatives (JPMorgan, Macquarie, BNP Paribas), as well as project and structured finance (ENGIE, New York Power Authority, Bank of China). Rafia has served on the Board of Directors of Women's Energy Network - Greater NYC Chapter for 5 years (2019-2023), working closely with academia (NYU, Columbia University) as well as corporate sponsors to promote the career development and mentorship of female colleagues across the Energy value chain. Rafia holds a B.B.A. from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a M.S. from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certification.
