Paul R.
Senior Product Manager @ Utilidata
About
I'm a product manager who came up through engineering, and I've spent my career on a single problem: getting more out of the power we already have. At Utilidata, I lead product development for Karman, our power orchestration platform for AI data centers. The problem is simple to state: power is the main thing holding back AI right now. Data centers build in big safety margins, so a lot of their power, and the revenue that comes with it, sits there unused. Karman finds that trapped capacity and reliably puts it to work, using a custom NVIDIA module that processes high-resolution power metrology locally, reacting in milliseconds. The same technology started on the electric grid, where it helps utilities run more reliably, cut costs, and bring more distributed energy resources online. Before Utilidata, I spent six years at National Grid on smart-metering strategy and commercial energy-efficiency programs, with earlier work in geothermal and building-envelope engineering. I like hard, physical problems with real engineering underneath them, and I'm less interested in the demo than in the version that survives contact with a real deployment.
