About
I am a Mumbai-based journalist and a multi-media professional. Currently, working independently I cover India's business of entertainment landscape, including streaming platforms, creator economy and the gaming ecosystem. I also take deep interest in climate change's impact in India and occasionally report on the matter. So far, my stories have appeared across The Guardian, The Economic Times, Mint, and Forbes India, among other top national and global publications. Before venturing out on my own, in 2018-19, I broke stories and wrote exclusives on start-ups and consumer giants like HUL, Shoppers Stop, and Ikea, for India's second-largest daily Mint. At The Ken, I dived deep into the intersection between tech and consumer companies. One of my stories-- an analysis on niche brands including Epigamia and Wingreens Farm pivoting from retail-led business model to pouring resources into digital channels due to the pandemic-led lockdown-- makes for an engrossing read. YourStory gave me the opportunity to expand my reporting horizon. I wrote about a bunch of sectors. From new-age VC-backed consumer brands to business of content, and also became a food critic. I broke news on TVF's upcoming motion pictures division, Fireside Ventures investing in gaming firms after backing new-age consumer brands, including Mamaearth and Boat Lifestyle, since its inception. I have also tried my hand at building D2C Insider media arm. As a core team member at the community-based firm, I conceptualized and built a foundation for the entity's media vertical. I erected the firm's weekly newsletter, D2C Insider Digest, from scratch. The newsletter got more than 4,000 subscribers and an average open rate of 33% in less than six weeks. I also devised and executed social media, event and event coverage strategies for D2C Insider. I studied commerce, majoring in Accountancy and Economics, at Mithibai College (Mumbai). After completing my undergraduate studies, I studied business journalism from Asian College of Journalism (ACJ-Bloomberg), graduating in 2018. I am always up for a discussion on streaming platforms, content, and startups. Do drop tips or introduce yourself at: prasannata.p05@gmail.com
