There were two main branches to the research; firstly, to investigate how LPS tolerance may affect the differentiation of haematopoietic stem cells down the osteoclastogenic lineage. Secondly, the activation of mesenchymal stem cells in response to mechanical strain was investigated, in order to establish the molecular mechanisms underpinning orthodontic tooth movement.
