Macroeconomic modeller @ European Commission
About
Engineer by training, economist by career. Working at the frontier of academic research and policy making. I am passionate about how theories, models and public action influence one another, how economic theories shape political discourse and vice-versa.

The global shift towards carbon-neutral energy systems necessitates in-depth, forward-looking analysis and modelling, motivated by the scale and multifaceted nature of the transformations at hand. My thesis examines the coupling of macroeconomic models and energy system models to generate policy-relevant insights into the dynamics of the energy transition. Such integrative approach reveals new dynamics and trajectories that would remain hidden if each model were considered in isolation. The simulation results at the world level underline that a global energy transition compatible with the 1.5°C objective of the Paris Agreement leads to a decrease of the energy system's EROI and to high investment share, employment and inflation. Potential bottlenecks and supply constraints are a major determinant of the related dynamics. The second part of the thesis focuses on model coupling for modelling the case of the Colombian energy transition. Through this case study, I aimed at studying how the macroeconomic dynamics of an emerging, fossil fuels exporting economy can be affected by its domestic energy transition. The simulation results especially highlight the joint dynamics between the energy transition, cross-border financial flows and the national currency exchange rate. Based on this pioneering work, several avenues for future research are put forward, to refine the feedback loops in the coupled model of the economy-finance-energy system. Research interests: • Energy transition • Energy system models • Ecological economics, biophysical economics • Post-keynesian economics • Post-growth economics For our research work, my supervisor and I won the prestigious Pierre and Colette Bauchau prize of 180,000€. The prize was awarded to us in Louvain-la-Neuve in October 2022. I was invited as a guest speaker to a workshop organised by the European University Institute in Florence in June 2024, covering the tools and methodologies underpinning the Green Deal.

While the European Union’s climate objectives are regularly revised upwards, financial mobilization still remains too weak, particularly in the public sector. The goal of the Road To Net Z€ro project is twofold: - Thoroughly quantify the public and private investments required to reach carbon neutrality for the EU economy. - Provide the European Parliament, but also private and civil society actors, with a detailed vision, sector by sector, policy measure by policy measure, of what is needed to drive the transition and finance it

irex Consulting is a straightforward business engineering consultancy specialized in the energy & utility sectors. They are experts in tackling operational business challenges across the entire value chain – production, sourcing & trading, grids, supply. In the context of my 1-year mission at an energy supplier, I: • was responsible for maintaining and developing python codes and machine learning algorithms which performed price forecasts on long term gas & power markets, as well as consumption forecasts • performed various business analyses and set up financial reports • gained in-depth knowledge about the Belgian energy sector and international energy markets

The Olivaint Conference of Belgium is an independent, non-partisan organization. It provides an extra-curricular education about public governance to selected students and young professionals of diverse disciplines. I became member of the Olivaint Conference in September 2018. Then, I was elected president of the association for the year 2019-2020. Throughout my experience at Olivaint, I: • Was trained in public speaking techniques and took part in an eloquence contest • Interacted closely with multiple top-level speakers of the industrial, academic, political and economic worlds • Took part in a study session in India, organised with the Belgian ministry of foreign affairs • Organised numerous events and developed leadership skills https://olivaint.be/fr/

Cellist
Louvain-la-Neuve
I have been playing cello since the age of five. After many years of hard work, I achieved a very good mastery of this instrument. In 2014, I was accepted within the symphonic orchestra of my university, which is among the biggest non-professional orchestras of Belgium. I was successively treasure-keeper and president of the orchestra between 2015 and 2017. This period coincided with an expansion of the orchestra’s influence. Besides, such experience greatly enhanced my skills in leadership, public speaking and conflict resolution. In 2018, I was part of a team which organized a concert tour for the orchestra in June 2019, in Vienna and Budapest. https://www.osel.be/

NUMECA International is a leading company in the field of CFD simulation. During my internship, I: • received a training related to the use of the CFD softwares developed at NUMECA • tested these softwares on numerous cases and analyzed their behavior • set up a list of recommendations regarding to the calibration of the parameters of these softwares
Education

Energy Economics
Thesis title: Coupling models to understand the interactions between energy transition and macroeconomic dynamics Interdisciplinary thesis (engineering-economics) co-supervised by Hervé Jeanmart (energy engineer, UCLouvain) and Antoine Godin (macro-economist, French Agency for Development – Université Sorbonne Paris-Nord).

Computational and Applied Mathematics
I followed a dual master programme between the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the UCLouvain. My master was centered on applied mathematics, with also a number of courses in economics and energy. I completed a master thesis at the frontier between the three disciplines: "Assessment of an energy-economy model based on the Energy Return on Investment (EROI) metric." Supervisor: Prof. H. Jeanmart. Further, I took part in the master theses competition organised by the engineers’ alumni association and won one of the four prizes.
