I want to build image analysis and visualization software for cell biology that "just works". Software that interactively renders a terabyte of 3D volume data and "understands" what a cell and a nucleus is. Last year we built a new semi automatic neuron tracing tool that works on terabyte size images. Those very large images give us exciting technical challenges like segmenting a million neurons and rendering the segmentation results at interactive frame rates. There are many interesting things to work on and move forward. Automated segmentation in various areas of application. Neurons. Blood vessels. Actin networks. Fluorescence images. Electron Microscopy. Correlative. Vesicle tracking. Cell lineage. Interesting problems everywhere. Which one to pick is also an interesting question because in the end the solution needs to "just work" :-)
