Backbeat Books just released my latest book, CRAZY MAN, CRAZY: THE LIFE OF BILL HALEY, which I co-authored with Bill Haley Jr. Omnibus Books released it earlier this year in the U.K. Last November, Rare Bird Books released a new and revised edition of my book THE STORY OF MOTOWN in paperback and audio formats (Grove Press published the original version in 1979.)

In 1992, the NEA and the NWU published my book PUBLISH WITHOUT PERISHING, a guide for authors.

In 1976, Indiana University Press published the book INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING, the first how-to book ever published on that subject, which I wrote with David Anderson. Iowa State University Press published a second edition of the book in 1992.

Barricade Books, headed by legendary publisher Lyle Stuart, published my book SECRET POLICE: INSIDE THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF INVESTIGATION in 1997. The only book ever written about the New York City Department of Investigation, this book concentrates on the years in which the Department was mostly free of mayoral control and was able to probe the heart of Gotham's culture of corruption.

In 1979, Grove Press, headed by legendary publisher Barney Rosset, published my book THE STORY OF MOTOWN, the first book about the Motown Record Company ever published in this country.

Chicago Review Press released my eighth book, SUPER FREAK: THE LIFE OF RICK JAMES, on March 1, 2017. It was the fourth book I've written about the Motown Record Corporation and its artists. Chicago also published my book THE LOST SUPREME: THE LIFE OF DREAMGIRL FLORENCE BALLARD under its Lawrence Hill Books imprint in 2008 and my book MARY WELLS: THE TUMULTUOUS LIFE OF MOTOWN'S FIRST SUPERSTAR in 2012. THE WALL STREET JOURNAL said of MARY WELLS that "When you finish this book, you will mourn Mary Wells, sure, and be grateful for the music she left. But don't be surprised if you find that, like John, Paul, George, and Ringo, you are a more than a little in love with her as well." PUBLISHERS WEEKLY said THE LOST SUPREME was "superlative... Benjaminson attempts valiantly, painstakingly to resurrect the reputation of founding Supreme members Flo Ballard... [An] engaging biography." The VILLAGE VOICE called THE LOST SUPREME "amazing" and AARP called it "a classic."
