I was responsible for the global IT security function at OfficeMax, an $8 billion public company where I developed, owned and passionately pursued a multiyear security strategy. I built the security function from scratch, hiring and retaining associates to comprise a highly skilled security team spanning security compliance, engineering/operations and architecture. I was able to effectively change the culture of a fast-paced organization with a high risk tolerance to ingrain risk management into everyday business and IT process. I also led the organization to Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance in my first nine months and sustained compliance ever since.

Responsible for assisting in the response activities related to a well-publicized payment card breach of a Fortune 100 wholesale distribution company. Assessing the current state and developing a strategy with both short- and long-term objectives concerning compliance, threat and vulnerability management, architecture, and identity and access management. Building new organizational model and helping hire the talent to drive desired outcomes.

I served as a security consultant for 10 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, delivering various solutions to Fortune 100 clients across many industries. I held increasingly progressive roles (Associate, Senior Consultant, Manager, Director) from hands-on technical security analyst to firm’s management co-leading the Midwest region and delivering a variety of security solutions including: security strategies, risk assessments, technical implementations (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, SEM) and large-scale security breach response.
