One of my primary responsibilities as a Field Service Engineer at Murata Machinery Malaysia is maintaining the AMHS equipment across various semiconductor fabs. I routinely work with OHVs (Overhead Hoist Vehicles), stockers, and AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles)—all critical components in material transportation within cleanroom environments. My work ensures that fab production lines are not interrupted by equipment failures, which could result in costly downtime. Regular preventive maintenance, real-time monitoring, and data logging are core aspects of my job. Each system is inspected for signs of mechanical wear, sensor misalignment, and control system irregularities. When issues arise, I act promptly to troubleshoot and resolve faults, whether they are mechanical, electrical, or electronic in nature. In addition to maintenance, I also play a key role in on-site equipment installations and system commissioning. This involves preparing the installation site, verifying mechanical and electrical readiness, performing alignment and calibration procedures, and executing functional checks. I have participated in full AMHS installations such as the 2024 Penang semiconductor fab, where I coordinated material handling, mechanical, and electrical installation work. In Singapore, I led the commissioning of OHV units into a new cleanroom bay, ensuring seamless integration with the client’s factory automation system. Commissioning requires precision, documentation, and collaboration across disciplines—including electricians, software teams, safety personnel, and production managers. It also involves training client engineers, providing operational handovers, and documenting test results. Often, I lead or supervise on-site installation teams consisting of junior engineers and contractors. I also coordinate with global vendors, ensuring the equipment meets both our standards and the client's expectations.
