In my PhD thesis at NOVA LINCS (FCT-UNL) I studied how to design and develop second screen interactions to improve the remote spectators' experience while watching live broadcasted sports, live TV shows and e-Sports. I've also co-founded Viva Superstars, where I've been serving as COO, as I supervise daily operations and I'm the responsible for the user experience of the products across the company. Viva Superstars is a Portuguese joint-venture founded by Cristiano Ronaldo, Polaris Sports and bViva Holding to revolutionise the way people connect and interact with their passions.

In bViva I designed the base UI for the applications powered up by Loyalty4G for Retail, a framework that aimed at improving a costumer's the overall shopping experience. It allowed retailers to get in touch and communicate with their customers at every moment of their shopping process, rewarding them for being mobile, for coming to the store and being Loyal. Based on indoor location technologies combined with a custom-made, save-and-reward-based mobile application, the system provided entertainment, advice, help and segmented content and rewards for loyal customers.

My PhD thesis is entitled: Enhancing Fan Experience During Live Sports Broadcasts Through Second Screen Applications. It describes how second screen interactions can help to enhance the remote spectators’ experience during live broadcast events. It presents a set of four prototypes that prompt users to interact in innovative and exciting ways during a soccer match. These prototypes invite users to participate in the applauses happening in the stadium, guess if a goal will happen in the next seconds, share opinions and emotions with friends in a innovative way, and effortlessly synchronise a TV broadcast with a second screen application. We also detail how the prototype concepts can be applied on the most popular sports, live TV shows genres, and videogames genres featuring on eSports. Results were submitted for peer reviewing through conferences and journals, related with the main research areas.
