In this position I was involved in research and development of new traffic enforcement systems and machine vision solutions for ITS applications. As senior engineer I architected hardware and embedded software systems in accordance with technical and regulatory requirements. I was also tasked to build Linux embedded systems as well as develop C and C++ software for ARM+DSP-based cameras for image capture and processing. For projects of new products, I developed hardware and signal processing firmware for vehicle detection and speed measurement with inductive loop technologies. As part of my responsibilities, I managed type approval process with Brazilian Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) and Brazilian Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) preparing documentation, improving equipment design for electromagnetic immunity and participating of conformity tests (EMC and climatic).

I was also tasked developing C firmware for Texas MSP430 and Renesas R8C microcontrolers. At equipment level, I designed wiring diagrams and implement test engineering.

My research examined the power consumption of network intrusion detection algorithms in software and FPGA coprocessors, focusing on better understand how a hybrid solution could improve the energy efficiency of network security for mobile devices. A power measurement platform was developed to enable the comparison between equivalent algorithms performed by a x86\_64 Atom Processor and VHDL Hardware. This research was supported by Intel Strategic Research Alliance with part of the research being performed at Actuated Sensing and Coordinated Embedded Networked Technologies Lab of UCLA (USA).
