ECU Distinguished Professor of Research and Harriot College Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, has more than 30 years of research experience in chemometrics involving 38 undergraduate students, 20 masters students, 9 visiting PhD students, and 6 post-doctoral research assistants. Dr. Gemperline's achievements include more than 60 publications in the field and more than $1.8 million in external grant funds. In 2003 he was named recipient of the Eastern Analytical Symposium's Award in Chemometrics, the highest international award in the field.

The Dean of the Graduate School provides oversight and coordination for activities related to the promotion, development and implementation of graduate studies across all academic divisions. The Dean of the Graduate School is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the continual advancement of the quality, reputation and direction of the Graduate School. The Dean represents the campus in matters relating to graduate studies to the Office of the Chancellor, the University of North Carolina, government agencies, private foundations, industry, the local community and the media.
