Responsibilities and Experience: Lab management Blown Fibre Blown Cable Fibre installation and splicing Product Assessment Product Design Field Trials Key Achievements: One of my biggest achievements in this area was as part of a team designing, lab testing, and field trialling a new blown fibre installation machine, which was later put into mass production and rolled out to all Openreach blown fibre installation engineers. Through working with field engineers trialling and improving this product, I gained a great deal of insight into the challenges faced by fibre installation engineers.

Responsibilities: Lab Management Network Synchronisation Synchronisation Testing (PSTN and SDH networks) Key Achievements: I was heavily involved in the design and lab testing of the first ever multi-port synchronisation tester which was developed in-house at BT Labs. I worked in a team of four people designing this, with my contribution being the embedded microcontroller software to process raw data from the PLCs in the tester and interface to a PC for recording and processing. I also travelled around the UK with synchronisation testers to monitor the quality of network synchronisation as BT's new synchronisation platform was rolled out, ensuring a smooth changeover and quickly detecting anomalies before they caused a detriment to network performance.

Low level design and testing of Metro Ethernet and DWDM solutions, troubleshooting in live DWDM, Ethernet and FTTC networks.
