In Dallas history, we de~seg'd the DISD. My experience of "being bussed" had nothing to do with the color of my skin. They put 9th grade into HS. Actually, I had gone farther, from Alex Sanger Elem school, to join the illustrious crew at J.L. Long Jr.HS. Then, they walked next door for their continued spot in local lore at Woodrow Wilson HS in Lakewood. Our little group was sent across the Interstate. My experience would more easily compare to Janis Ian's song 🎶At Seventeen🎶 than anything for which Mr. Gordy received a royalty check. It turns out that, against all those odds, I had been the last ever to be elected Cheerleader @ JL Long, old~school. That was H U G E as it was for all the kids who "made" such teams. Long really was a historical school. All of our excitement was as pure as our devastation. Then, a teacher invited me to the DISD's Soc Services & Edu Magnet. My Internship experiences were each extraordinary. Today, sadly, I think "they" would not allow them.
