Thesis research project involved the identification of a previously-unknown compound with potential for development as a non-invasive, cytology-independent screening methodology for bladder and other urinary tract cancers in high-risk populations. Additional research involved isolation and characterization of low molecular weight heparinoids; that work contributed to the body of knowledge which culminated in the development and and marketing of a variety of heparinoids like Lovenox, which have completely transformed the treatment of a variety of coagulation disorders. Activities and Societies: Full-time graduate student at the School of Public Health & laboratory researcher in the field of glycosaminoglycan and heparinoid biochemistry, working with Robert Hurst, PhD, George Hemstreet, MD, PhD, and others. U. S. Department of Health and Human Services Fellowship grantee.
