Having traveled to Holland to further my education in Horticulture I identified an opportunity to export cut flowers to Europe during the Northern Hemisphere winters when production costs due to heating make flower production unfeasible. I brought the idea back to Zimbabwe and started my own business which over time grew to an operation which require 185 seasonal employees to service the 6 hectares of cut flowers grown, under greenhouses in two different projects. 90% of production was exported and sold at auction on the largest wholesale flower auction floors in Aalsmeer, Holland.

As a regional Horticulture Industry representative organisation, BFVG has evolved to become a central industry contact point for our local membership base. BFVG is a non-trading, not-for-profit, grower-based cooperative comprising a membership base of horticulture growers and industry service businesses in the Bundaberg, Gympie and Gayndah regions. The Bundaberg region alone is one of the largest Production Horticulture regions in Australia growing a diverse range of healthy nutritious fruits, vegetables, nuts and herbs. This region is estimated to have an annual farm gate value of more than $500 million, injects over $1 billion into the local economy and plays an integral role in the nation’s food security.
