In Southlake/ Carroll ISD I served as the only elementary art teacher for two elementary schools where I spent 2 days a week at one and 3 days a week at the other. I had over 900 students in 41 classes which I saw for 30 minutes once each week. This was a great experience for me. This required a lot of effort, energy and very tight organization

Kathy Burks I learned later was an exception to day care. It was run by Cathy Burks, the well know marionette and Dallas Children's Theater artist. They called themselves a "child development center" and focussed on helping the children to develop their verbal skills as well as their psycho-motor skills. I later learned that this focus on development and the parent-like loving care given to the children was unusual. This was a wonderful first teaching job for me and I am so fortunate to have had this opportunity where I learned so much!
