Commuting a 40 mile round trip to university in the early '90s whilst bringing up my daughter, I did manage to obtain a Class II(i) honours degree and was also fortunate after graduating to obtain a position at Quest International (now Givaudan). I had previously worked at Quest before leaving to study full time. In particular my fond regards remain with Drs Creighton and Mitchell who were then at the University and also Professors Todd and Beezer for all their help, inspiration and encouragement during that time. computer science
Starting off with discussion on the various types of computers available at the time, moving to an understanding of the binary and hexadecimal systems and their importance in hardware and machine code, various areas of computing were investigated. Program design, coding in BASIC and C, systems analysis and design, microchip design, Boolean logic, the use of negative logic gates, etc. This was all logical stuff and I took to it like a duck to water of course!

Funding myself and stuyding in my own time whilst working full time, I successfully completed a Diploma in Computing. As part of the Diploma I studied Object Oriented programming, history and function of the World Wide Web, various internet protocols and functions. I also completed courses in Relational Databases (SQL). At the same time I studied the course "Putting Computer Systems to Work", in which C++ was used to write program and demonstrate the principals of parameter testing and the of designing interchangeable interfaces for single code, obtaining 98% in my final project for writing one set of code for multiple interfaces.
