Paloma Valencia

I teach Introduction to Relief Printmaking, a 5-week program taking place online and in-studio. In this course, I show students how to carve, ink, and print their own linoleum blocks. Responsibilities include designing a lesson plan, developing course materials, delivering weekly presentations and demonstrations, and working individually with students throughout the conceptualization and production of their printed editions.

The Station Manager is the head of scheduling and training new DJs/Producers. Responsibilities include maintaining station on-air schedule and programming, scheduling monthly station meetings, maintaining communications with team and DJs/Producers, coordinating on-campus events, collaborating with other student organizations on campus, and overseeing daily tasks and long-term projects.

I am the founder and host of "The Salt", a weekly interview and live music program on Free Radio SAIC. On the show, my collaborator and I ask up-and-coming local music talent about the logistics of maintaining their professional practice. Topics have included DIY merchandise distribution, independent music production, funding their own tour, connecting with Chicago's music venues, and collaborating with other artists. These interviews culminate with an exclusive acoustic live session in the radio booth. My co-host and I produce, engineer and edit all of our content in-studio at Free Radio SAIC.

As Promotions Director, I handled the promotions and branding for a student-run online radio station. I designed printed and digital materials, managed social media accounts connected to the station, coordinated on-air giveaways, assisted in planning on-campus events, and contacted local Chicago music venues and arts organizations.

In my summer internship with Trelles Cabarrocas Architects, I worked as a part of a small design team. Our most notable project was designing the map for Pinecrest Gardens, a 20-acre city park in South Florida (where it is currently on display). I was responsible for providing artistic direction and illustrating the map by hand.
