About
Dr. Kalinli is an expert in speech and language processing, and human-machine interaction. She has been with Meta since August 2020, where her team focuses on enabling speech capabilities for large language models (LLM), advancing the state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition (ASR) for both large-scale server models and small on-device models. Between 2017-2020, she was with Siri Speech team at Apple, where she managed the acoustic modeling team for ASR. Before joining Apple, she was a senior research scientist in the R&D Group at Sony Playstation from 2010-2017. At Sony Playstation, she worked on human-machine interactions in games, and current and next-gen voice centric PlayStation VR products. In 2008, she was a visiting researcher in the Speech Group at Microsoft Research. Her work has been mainly focused on human-machine interaction, speech and audio processing, automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding, deep learning and its applications to various problems. Dr. Kalinli has published her work in speech and language processing conferences and journals, and holds more than 10 patents. She has been serving as associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing since 2019, and in IEEE Women in Signal Processing Committee (WISP) since January 2021, and served in IEEE Speech and Language Technical Committee (SLTC) between 2018-2021. She was the area chair for speech recognition at ICASSP 2021, ICASSP 2022, and Interspeech 2016. She served as publicity chair at IEEE Spoken Language Technology Workshop 2021, publications chair for Workshop on Hands-Free Speech Communication and Microphone Array (HSCMA) in 2017, and finance chair and unconference style SIG meetings organizer at 2014 IEEE Spoken Language Technology Workshop.
