Development of a 9-Foot Tall, 6-Legged Robot for Challenging Terrain Navigation Designed a precise C.A.D. model for a 9-foot tall hexapod robot capable of navigating through challenging terrains like corn fields. Incorporated 2 degrees of freedom (DOF) for each leg, considering leg workspace and torque requirements for optimal performance. Fabricated the robot assembly using power tools (angle grinder, band saw) and hand tools, ensuring robust and precise construction. Designing a Feedback Control System for Robot Legs Developed a feedback control system using ESP32 microcontrollers and linear actuators for efficient leg actuation. Integrated time-of-flight sensors with I2C communication protocols for real-time feedback and precise control. Designed a modular architecture to create a local Wi-Fi network for inter- and intra-ESP32 communication, enabling seamless coordination. Kinematic Modeling and Trajectory Generation Designed a kinematic model to generate trajectories for hexapod locomotion, ensuring smooth and stable movement. Applied knowledge of inverse kinematics, forward/inverse dynamics, and impedance control to optimize leg motion. Created real-world simulators using Simscape to validate robot performance in virtual environments. Programmed the robot’s control system using Python and C++ in Visual Studio, ensuring compatibility and efficiency. Control Systems and Dynamic Modeling Expertise Applied knowledge of control systems, including spring-loaded inverted pendulum, zero momentum control, and model predictive control. Developed dynamic models for electrical, mechanical, and thermal systems to ensure optimal performance. Developed Kalman filter based sensor fusion for lidar and IMU data to address noise in trajectory estimation, improving real-time localization accuracy by 25% during hexapod robot field tests. Automated 5 SIL test cases using Python to replace manual regression checks, increasing software validation throughput by 45%
