Prof. Dr. med. Oliver Pfaar is currently holding the position of head at the Section of Rhinology and Allergology at the University Hospital, Philipps-University Marburg, Marburg, Germany. His clinical and experimental focus is mainly on inflammatory airway-diseases. He is also M.D. and specialist for Otorhinolaryngology with (sub-)speciality in Allergology. He has board certification in otorhinolaryngology (ORL, 2004) and allergy (2007). After finishing medical school at the University of Göttingen, Germany, he was trained in ORL at the University Clinic of the Carl-Gustav-Carus Universität in Dresden, Germany. Hereafter, he has been appointed as clinician scientist at the University Clinic of the Medical Faculty of Mannheim, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, and acted as the scientific chair of the Center for Rhinology and Allergology in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 2018, he has been appointed as head of the section Rhinology and Allergology at University Hospital in Marburg, Germany. Oliver Pfaar is member of the Executive Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) since 2017, and he has been the chair of the Immunotherapy Interest Group (IT IG) for many years. Besides, he is member of the board of Directors of the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI). During the annual congress 2024 of EAACI in Valencia, he has been elected as Vice President of the academy (per 03 June, 2024). As an international expert in airway-diseases, he has been involved in more than 210 clinical trials in the field with many of those as global/country investigator and lead investigator at site. Besides, he acts as Editor-in-Chief of 'Clinical and Translational Allergy' (IF=4.0) and as Associate Editor of Allergy (IF=12.0), both the scientific journals of the EAACI Further, he has published 520 scientific articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and edited and authored multiple textbooks. He coordinated or has been involved in many international and national guidelines in allergy. His current H-Index is 76 with 20,974 citations (SCOPUS Mar 2026). Pfaar has received multiple scientific awards such as the “Research Grant of the German Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI)” in 2019.
