I had two very rewarding science experience in the Summer of 2023: Experience One: I had the honor of being the first high school student ever to work in the Barnea Neuroscience lab of Brown University. -I studied how fruit flies use their sense of smell and taste to decide what to eat. -I learned to use Trans-Tango (a molecular tool used to map neural circuits) to label, track and manipulate specific neurons related to taste and smell. -I bred genetically modified fruit flies. -I dissected fly brains and stained them under an electron microscope. -I learned about gene inscribing, where we used different foods to test neurons reactivity. Experience Two: The later half of the summer I was a Summer Intern/Science Communicator at the Brown University’s Translational Neuroscience Outreach Program (TNOP) . Translational neuroscience is the study of neuroscience for the purpose of understanding and designing treatments for nervous systems disorders. Out of 5 teams, my team was selected as most outstanding in our research and got to: -Created a Wikipedia page on the rare genetic disorder, SLC13A5 Citrate Transporter Disorder (also called SLC13A5 Epilepsy) This is a neurological disorder associated with the gene SLC13A5, which is the gene that codes for a protein that is responsible for transporting citrate. Mutations in this gene cause epilepsy and developmental problems. Our Wiki page was adopted by the TESS Foundation, which is the foundation that heads funding and research for the genetic disorder. -Created a children’s book for families and children affected by SLC13A5 Epilepsy.

President and Cofounder of the Non profit organization Youth4globalchange. Our primary mission is peer to peer mentoring within our communities to tackle social justice issues and uplift our youth. Partnered with: C12, a rehabilitation organization based in Nairobi, Kenya, Prince to Kings, a mentorship program focused on uplifting the young men in our community, Phillips Academy, Community Prepatory School, and the Gordon School. We also volunteered at the JCC of Greater Rhode Island, and donated books, computers, and water tanks to two schools in the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Working with my dorm counselors and my surrounding peers to create a healthy dorm environment. Consists of working together with administration to secure snacks and food for the dorm, keep our environment clean, conflict free, coordinate fun excursions, and maintain a fun place to live!

Helped organized, led, and was the youngest speaker at a protest of 1000 people and Brown Medical Doctors to speak outside the State House with the governor about changing policy surrounding the unfair treatment of black people. We were joined by pre med students at Brown University.

As a lifeguard, I am tasked with vigilantly monitoring swimming areas to ensure the safety of swimmers, swiftly responding to emergencies with rescue operations and first aid, and enforcing safety rules to prevent accidents. My role requires maintaining high physical fitness and educating the public about water safety to create a secure and enjoyable aquatic environment.

In my role as a Camp Counselor, I leveraged my adaptability and rich experience to foster a dynamic and engaging environment for camp attendees. My previous volunteer work at the Boys and Girls Club of Fox Point honed my leadership skills and ability to effectively work with children, enabling me to guide and inspire young minds. I also applied my expertise in building meaningful relationships and creating a collaborative atmosphere, skills sharpened through founding and running my non-profit, youth4globalchange.org, focused on teaching and preventing addiction in youth. As a Camp Counselor, I was responsible for planning and facilitating various activities, ensuring both educational and recreational value. My duties included overseeing the safety and well-being of campers, providing mentorship, and promoting an inclusive and respectful environment. My ability to listen, learn, and accept wisdom was critical in adapting to the diverse needs of the campers and working harmoniously with fellow staff members. My role also entailed utilizing my refined public speaking skills to communicate effectively with campers and staff, and imparting social justice values and awareness through carefully crafted programs and discussions. The experience further enhanced my ability to operate in a leadership capacity, manage responsibilities akin to running a business, and continuously learn from those around me. This position not only allowed me to contribute positively to the lives of young individuals but also provided a platform for personal growth and professional development, reinforcing my commitment to a rigorous work ethic and my aspiration to improve every day.

Worked as a Youth Leader leading and facilitating online and in person meetings for marinalized youth centering around political identity, education, and current events. Also ran summer programs for middle schoolers and High schoolers covering the same topics but including activities, day time trips, and access to conferences cntering around education and self improvement.
