Nurul Hidayah Abu Bakar

I started my legal career after my admission to the High Court of Sabah & Sarawak on 25th January 2019 at Messrs. Dominique Ng & Associates, a law firm which mainly handles Native Customary Rights (NCR) land disputes. Throughout my brief period of practice ever since my admission to the Sarawak Bar in 2019, I have assisted and appeared in trials, appeals and interlocutory proceedings at courts of all levels, from the lower courts all the way up to the Federal Court. One of the achievements I’ve made throughout my legal career would be to appear as a lead counsel in a Court of Appeal hearing against setting aside an arbitration award concerning NCR land dispute where the Court of Appeal had unanimously ruled in my favour. In September 2020, I joined another boutique law firm in Kuching where I gained my knowledge and experience in other areas of general litigation such as contractual and construction disputes as well as conveyancing and corporate matters, having been actively involved in negotiations with clients and drafting legal and corporate agreements. In June 2021, I embarked on a rewarding journey as a Legal Officer with STIDC, a statutory corporation in Sarawak. This decision has brought me immense satisfaction, offering a wealth of exposure, invaluable experience, and knowledge, which shapes me into becoming the person I am today. Outside of my professional and academic commitments, I find balance through sports and music. I value time spent with family and friends, and I’m drawn to content that promotes optimism, emotional resilience, and positive values.
