In my role, I analyzed historical data using SQL, AVEVA PI Datalink, and PI Vision, integrating this with information from incoming ore sources to generate set point recommendations for operations. I was responsible for daily and monthly metallurgical accounting and reporting using Algosys for the concentrator. Additionally, I supervised graduate engineers and interns, promoting a strong safety culture that resulted in zero incidents. I developed dashboards within the AVEVA PI system to help operations monitor deviations in the comminution and flotation circuits. Furthermore, I updated standard work instructions (SWIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to incorporate more efficient methods for processing and recovering copper into concentrate.

I utilized JMP statistical software to develop a copper prediction model based on key process variables, to estimate the benefit of using new reagents during chemical trials. I generated weekly performance reports to keep stakeholders informed on the plant’s progress and key metrics. My data analysis work included evaluating the relationship between SAG mill performance and grate sizes to determine the cost-effectiveness of modifying mill configurations. I also led the implementation of the VisioRock camera system, enabling real-time monitoring of particle size distributions and improving the estimation of pebble crusher efficiency. In addition to technical duties, I supervised contractors on site to ensure work was completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational standards. I collaborated with the HR team to support recruitment efforts for the concentrator technical team and coordinated quarterly team-building activities to strengthen team cohesion and engagement.

During my two years in the Rio Tinto graduate program, I rotated through three key groups at the Copperton Concentrator: Operational Technical Support, Operations, and Planning. In the Operational Technical Support team, I was responsible for daily and monthly metallurgical accounting and reporting through Algosys, conducted a full-scale plant trial to test additional frothers, and worked directly with chemical and equipment vendors. My commitment to integrity was recognized with a copper coin award. While on the Operations team, I monitored plant variables to optimize performance, created and updated Procbook trends for operational use, and led daily stakeholder meetings. I also developed SOPs to improve safety for operators, helped build a constraint utilization tool to enhance plant performance, and supervised an intern. In the Planning group, I set daily and weekly production targets, coordinated mine deliveries to meet these goals, and supported a project that improved vehicle and pedestrian safety on site. Additionally, I implemented VBA macros to automate routine Excel-based workflows, improving efficiency across planning activities.

Assisted in the design and implement a new testing procedure for a commercial heap leach. Performed special project assignments as required.
