Primary research projects investigated the role of the endocannabinoid system in the regulation of gut motility and the development of colitis and obesity. Further, the effects of dietary supplementation and the predisposition to obesity on gut function were examined. Collaborative projects examined the effects of differing models of bariatric surgery on gut morphology. Carried out the experimental design, research, analysis and wrote scientific papers for publication for the primary projects. Supervised high school and undergraduate students in the lab.

Working on projects related to a CIHR funded research team entitled “Brain Dysfunction in Chronic Inflammatory Disease: Reciprocal Effects of CNS and Periphery Crosstalk”. Primary research projects investigate the role of cerebral endothelial cells in the development of communication pathways that are established between the periphery and the brain during inflammatory bowel disease, which result in comorbidities such as depression, fatigue and anxiety. In addition, support, advice and mentorship is provided to other personnel and trainees working in the research team, as well as coordination of the research, input into the design and execution of projects, and the analysis and interpretation of data within the research team.
